The New Workshop.

for the last 16 years I have been doing all my building in a 10 foot by 8 foot workshop (shed)

for the first 12 months I stored my aircraft in there to, but there was not enough room, so I built a 5x10 extension ( the hanger).

Well the time has come to build myself something a little bit bigger and that needs less maintenance.

It all began whilst working away on a site, and 3 guys pulled up to build a maintenance workshop on a new theme park ride I was managing. I was quite impressed with it,it was a steel frame with steel cladding built up in a few hours.

I asked one of the guys for a ball park cost for a 14 x 8 (4 foot longer than mine) he came out with a price of £ 2 ½ -3 K.

over the next few days I kept looking at it and took a few photos, the more I looked at it the more I thought I could make one my self.

So as soon as I had some time at work I ordered the box steel with angle and a window frame and so the welding commenced.

Workshop and hanger as it is now.

The new frames before paint.

Old workshop coming down 😩
Cleared and new sandstone base with blocks to sit the frame on.
Frames and cladding going on over Easter weekend ( thanks Steve)
Now for the internals

All timbered out ready for the polystyrene insulation.

Partition wall up!

Insulation and internal cladding going in.

a lick of paint and the worktops going in.

Time to bring all the contents back, and find them a home!

All in all its taken around 5 weeks at home of building etc. ( every weekend and evening). but at last I can say its finished, apart from a few minor jobs.

The Hanger side (where I keep all the completed aircraft has just been organised tonight )

it is now 00:05 in the morning having just come in and I am rounding this page of the website off.

It has been hard work but with the help of a few of my buddy's and a very understanding wife it has been worth it. I am a happy bunny.

Just one last thing to say :-

Time to get on with some

building and flying !
